RAW MATERIALS

PRINCIPLES OF OUR RAW MATERIAL SELECTION

The goal of the Kronen group is to operate and manage
most of the raw material sites by itself.
The raw material sites are quality controlled, tested and certified
by an independent body.
External suppliers must be certified by an independent
bodies and have quality assurance schemes
Long lasting supply chains are rated higher than
short term gains on the spot market.
Raw materials are sourced as locally as possible.
The Kronen group is committed to substituting slow renewable
resources with quick renewable resources wherever possible,
without compromising on quality.

MILLED WHITE PEAT

The most commen way to exctract peat is milling.  The top layer of the peat bog is being milled when weather conditions are dry.  Once the loose peat has dried to a water content of 55% it is being harvested either by a vacuum or a mechanical harvester.  This cycle is being repeated a couple of times during the dryer periods of the year.
Raw Material: White Peat (H2 to H3)
PH: 3,5 -4,0
Bulk density: 160-220 kg/m3(EN)
Productions sites: Lasland sp z o.o., Przemtorf sp z o.o.
Structure: fine, medium
Special physical characteristics: good water retention
Application: propagation, trays and bedding plants

WHITE BLOCK PEAT

Peat blocks are being cut out of the peat bog.  These blocks are being dried and turned by hand to reach a water content of 45%.  After one year the blocks are being collected, crushed and screened.
Raw Material: White Peat (H2 to H3)
PH: 3,5 -4,0
Bulk density: 140-180 kg/m3(EN)
Productions sites: Lasland sp z o.o., Przemtorf sp z o.o.
Structure: medium, coarse, fibres
Special physical characteristics: good water retention, stable structure
Application: potting substrates, soft fruits

BLACK PEAT (Frozen Through)

The extraction of black peat starts already in the early autumn and is complex process in itself.  The excavated material is being distributed so that the frost penetrates the loose material.  The peat is harvested during summer.  The process increases the water and air capacities of the material.
Raw Material: Black peat (H4 to H6)
PH: 3,5 -4,0
Bulk density: 350-400 kg/m3(EN)
Productions sites: Lasland sp z o.o.
Structure: super, fine, medium
Special physical characteristics: good water retention, good drainage
Application: blocking substrate, propagation, trays

ECOFIBREX® (WOODFIBRE)

Ecofibrex is made from wood chips.  The material is being milled and crushed under high pressure.  The chips become fibre.  The process takes place at
70 ℃. Ecofibrex is made from quickly renewable resources and can partly substitute peat without compromising on quality.
Raw Material: soft wood chips untreated and locally sourced
PH: 3,5 -4,0
Bulk density: 110-120 kg/m3(EN)
Productions sites: Lasland sp z o.o.
Structure: super fine, fine, medium,
Special physical characteristics: good air capacity and good drainage
Application: propagation, bedding substrates, potting substrates, tree nurseries

PERLITE

Perlite is a mineral. It is being exfoliated at 1000 ℃. It is widely used as an additive to professional substrates due to is excellent air  capacitie.
Raw Material: perlite
PH: 6,5-7,5
Bulk density: 40-100 kg/m3 (EN)
Productions sites: External suppliers with independent quality control schemes RHP
Structure: 0-6mm
Special physical characteristics: excellent water capacity, long lasting structure
Application: multi-purpose

CLAY

Clay is a mineral, which is widely used as an additive to peat based substrates. The Kronen® group uses only natural plateau clay from Sweden for its professional substrates.
Raw Material: clay
PH: 5,0-6,5
Bulk density: 1000-1200 kg/m3(EN)
Productions sites: External suppliers with independent quality control schemes RHP
Structure: 0-6mm
Special physical characteristics: quick water uptake and nutrient balancing
Application: multi purpose

SUSTAINABILITY

The Kronen Group is committed to minimize negative environmental effects of peat extraction. The after-use of peat extraction sites and the introduction of quickly renewable resources into product mix have been in the groups focus.

THE KRONEN GROUP

The Kronen Group consists of four companies. Each company has its own area of operation. Great focus is placed on sharing information amongst the group to acquire     the highest amount of knowledge within the group.
