PRINCIPLES OF OUR RAW MATERIAL SELECTION
The goal of the Kronen group is to operate and manage
most of the raw material sites by itself.
The raw material sites are quality controlled, tested and certified
by an independent body.
External suppliers must be certified by an independent
bodies and have quality assurance schemes
Long lasting supply chains are rated higher than
short term gains on the spot market.
Raw materials are sourced as locally as possible.
The Kronen group is committed to substituting slow renewable
resources with quick renewable resources wherever possible,
without compromising on quality.
MILLED WHITE PEAT
The most commen way to exctract peat is milling. The top layer of the peat bog is being milled when weather conditions are dry. Once the loose peat has dried to a water content of 55% it is being harvested either by a vacuum or a mechanical harvester. This cycle is being repeated a couple of times during the dryer periods of the year.

WHITE BLOCK PEAT
Peat blocks are being cut out of the peat bog. These blocks are being dried and turned by hand to reach a water content of 45%. After one year the blocks are being collected, crushed and screened.

BLACK PEAT (Frozen Through)
The extraction of black peat starts already in the early autumn and is complex process in itself. The excavated material is being distributed so that the frost penetrates the loose material. The peat is harvested during summer. The process increases the water and air capacities of the material.

ECOFIBREX® (WOODFIBRE)
Ecofibrex is made from wood chips. The material is being milled and crushed under high pressure. The chips become fibre. The process takes place at
70 ℃. Ecofibrex is made from quickly renewable resources and can partly substitute peat without compromising on quality.
